Wedding Website - Should You Have One?
Should You Have a Wedding Website?
I am a big advocate for having a wedding website. They are easy to navigate, and they are free. It allows you to have all your information in one place to point people and your guests to access things easily they may forget or to double-check things like location, time, date, registry, etc. If you are trying to lower costs, your wedding website will be a great advantage to you as it can significantly cut down on stationary costs. Especially in younger generations, most guests prefer to RSVP online as well as have the ability to see all the details about your event without hunting down the invitation.
No. 1 - Which website to choose
The three main competitors for wedding websites are The Knot, Zola, and Wedding Wire. Which one you choose will depend on what you value in a website. If you are looking for a simple, easy to use, mainstream website, then I would recommend The Knot. It is simple, and people are familiar with it. If you want more options, a robust website that includes many details, and multiple RSVP and gift tracking features, then I would use Zola. It is the one I used, although I did create an account with all three. I felt Zola had the most versatile options and kept everything cohesive. If you want a lot of help with your vendors and a budget tracking form, then definitely use Wedding Wire. It’s a bit clunkier than the other two; however, they have hundreds of vendors listed, and its search function is easy to use. It was by far the most helpful tool in finding my vendors. You can create an account with all three, which is what I did, and play around with them to find out their strengths and which one you find most enjoyable to work with.
No. 2 - Main functions
There are a few main functions in a website that you need to look for, and they fall into two categories. The two categories are external and internal. External is what your guests see and use, and internal is the functions that benefit you. Let’s discuss the internal first. Previously, we talked about how you choose the website based on what you value, and those are the internal functions. RSVPs, Registry, Guestlist, finding vendors, etc. I would certainly take advantage of these internal functions as they are extremely beneficial, but only if you use them.
Externally, you want your website to be an enjoyable experience for your guests. Before you send out save the dates that have your website listed, make sure that it looks nice, is complete, and is easy to navigate.
